The Grocer
Mr.Joshua Grype is an expert of sorts;
There are those who excel at the playing of sports,
At the pruning of trees or the keeping of bees,
But for Joshua Grype its the cutting of cheese.
Mr.Grype keeps the shop at the top of the
hill;
Mr Grype keeps the shop; his wife keeps the till.
If a customer askes for confetti or glue,
Or a tin of tobacco, spaghetti or stew,
Any shop girl can serve for no skill is required,
Except when there's half pound of cheese to be wired.
For Miss Smith can serve jam or a packet of peas
But its Joshua Grype who does cutting of cheese.
Wensleydale, Stilton, Caerphilly or Bath,
And whether you want just a quarter or half,
Joshua's never been known yet to fail.
And the portions he cuts always balance the scale.
